Norse Cove Paddling Courses Available at PYC again this season! Hello members and friends: For anyone that is interested, Norse Cove is offering their paddling courses at PYC again this season. Below is what’s available to us! We need at least 6 registrations to hold the course on any one date. On any one date, we can accept registrations up to the level of the equipment that kayakers have or that we have available to lend. If registrations exceed that level, registrants will need to arrange equipment, which is available through Norse Cove at an additional cost. If you are interested, please contact Valerie Shannon at valleni@outlook.com and let her know which course you would like to attend and your preferred date. Please keep in mind that, at this point, the two-day course is only offered on July 2 & 3, 2022….Valerie will do her best to coordinate all the registrations and have the courses set up to serve the majority of registrations. One-Day — Paddle Canada Basic Course – Focus is safety conditions as a group. Instruction in assisted-re-entry techniques. Paddling is another of the great water sports and recreation activities available to our members and friends at PYC. If you feel you need a course to get you started or to improve your skills, we hope you are able to capitalize on this opportunity at our own club. If not, you can always sign up for courses, including those available from Norse Cove, at other locations. Kindest regards Public PYC Events: However, as you probably already know, government rules dictate that, for the next while, we (at PYC) must write down the name and phone number of each and every attendee at all of our public events / gatherings, and we must ask for proof of double vaccination along with pictured id when allowing people to attend. This will hold true for all of our events such as the Haul Out of the Docks, the AGM meeting, and the Christmas Dance, etc. The Twin Oaks Hospital will be doing the same for their Flu Clinic on November 19th and 20th. Private Rental Events: Private events (other than those mentioned above) are heavily restricted, with renters being held to a limit of 25 persons indoors. In this case, we recommend our renters to take attendance even if they are not inclined to request proof of vaccination. Please be kind to our door monitors, as they follow the mandated provincial guidelines intended to keep our community safe. To obtain your proof of full vaccine from the province of Nova Scotia, please visit novascotia.ca/immunizationrecord or call 1-833-797-7772. We thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. Kindest regards, The Halifax International Boat Show has everything from entry level to luxury boats, plus a full range of services and accessories. In addition to all your favourite local dealers, the Halifax International Boat Show features family-friendly activities, educational seminars and more! Check the show website for updates BEST OF LUCK IN THE NOVA SCOTIA OPTI PROVINCIALS TO OUR YOUNG The Nova Scotia Opti Provincials will be hosted by the Hubbards Sailing Club on Monday August 30 and Tuesday August 31. Aidan Aaboe McIntosh will be racing in the Opti Open fleet and Chloe Aaboe will be racing in the Opti Green fleet. This is Aidan and Chloe’s first year attending larger regattas and they have been working extremely hard and have had some great results for PYC at each regatta they have attended. Aidan has competed in: The Bay Wind Regatta – Sail East Chloe has competed in: ARK Wish them luck! On June 10/11 the Petpeswick Yacht Club was pleased to pair up with Norse Cove Kayaking from Tangiers, Instructors Karl Vollmer and Werner Venter, to present a Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea Kayaks Skills Course. Over the two day course seven participants learned valuable paddling techniques, assisted rescues, self rescues and instruction on reading wind/water conditions for safe kayaking. The perfect weather cooperated to help make the course enjoyable. Due to Covid-19, the Learn to Sail program must stay outside as much as possible. We are using the shaded areas under trees as classrooms. For the safety of the children and your equipment, please do not park cars, trailers, or boats in the shaded areas of the 2 big trees down near the water as the driveway turns. The big tree is on the right and the other is on the left (with the launching sign and box on it). We will indicate our classroom areas with boards so it is clear to all. Also, please leave the ground in front of the Junior Clubhouse empty so children can pass safely in and out, and so they can do activities there. Learn to Sail thanks you for your cooperation with this matter. Sailing lessons start Monday, June 28. Tender boats and member owned dinghies should be kept on a slip that has been designated as a tender/temporary use spot. It will be modified this weekend to better accommodate this purpose. I will ask that before the June 28 start date of sailing lessons all tender boats be moved to this area. I will mark the slip and send out a notice to everyone once the few modifications have taken place. Thanks, Drone video courtesy Gail Fulop of the 2021 marina launch. We’re ready to start the boating season and great shots of Petpeswick Inlet. Drone video (2:28 secs) As Nova Scotia moves through Phases of reopening, protocols change often. Currently, sailing students are required to have clean masks for indoor use. If it rains they can go inside and do sailing related activities, and this will require wearing masks. PYC Learn to Sail has opened more spots for sailing students, including 1 week sessions. Note that August 2-13 weeks are full except to Wet Feet students. How to Register 2021 1. Go to sailcanada.checklick.com and create a profile for each child. Returning students (other than Wet Feet) do not do this. 2. Go to Learn to Sail tab on this site, Youth Registration, scroll down to the Register orange bar. You must register each child separately. 3. Choose the Annual Junior Membership $25, answer the questions that are required, and pay for that transaction. 4. Choose your desired courses. Note that they are listed CANSail 1-2 first, 2 week sessions, then CANSail 1-2, 1 week session. New students register for these courses. Contact Elizabeth, Learn to Sail Director if you have any problems. The marina is now set up and ready for our members to enjoy. Electricity is connected already and water will be connected this week. You will notice some yellow devices dangling in the water from some slips. These are part of an environmental study of invasive species that we are involved with. Please do not tamper with these devices. If there is a concern about the placement please contact Rear-Commodore, Alex Teeft . We are still planning to host the PYC Weekend Cruise on July 3rd. We will have a skippers meeting on July 2nd at 7:30pm to address any changes to the event notice that has been posted. The Anchorage is known as ‘False Passage’ and is part of the 100 Wild Islands. All boaters are encouraged to join in and meet at the anchorage. It will be a great day of boating and a night of festivities. Contact Rear-Commodore, Alex Teeft for more information or to confirm your intent to participate. See Weekend Cruise The Lobster Roll takeout was a great success. Thank you to our volunteers, members and the Musquodoboit Harbour community. And a big thank you to Patsy and Ernie for the hard work in putting it all together. It’s that time of year again! The docks are in, the boats are going in the water, and we hope you have an amazing boating season! Here’s a link to videos of the dock build this year. Provincial health and group size regulations are still impeding the installation of the marina for this season. We are currently working on a plan to get a work party formed to do this task on the first weekend that restrictions allow. At this time it looks like the 2nd weekend in June may be a possibility. Any members with suggestions or input on this situation are asked to reach out. Given the late start to this season we will do everything possible to extend the season as far into the Fall as we can. This may look like a later (and colder) marina haul-out than members may typically expect. Working together we can still make this a great year for boating at PYC. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone around the club in the coming months. PYC will offer a Lobster Roll Takeout on Sunday, June 20th, from 12:00 noon to 6:00pm! The meal is 2 well-stuffed lobster rolls and a generous side of potato salad with a wee surprise treat! The gluten-free option is a delicious plate of the salads with no bread (or with gluten free bread). Price is $25 per order. Imagine fresh, juicy East Coast lobster and no work to shell or dispose of the bodies. Confirm your orders ASAP! For more info. and payment contact Patricia. Club members (or potential club members) interested in weekly kayaking are encouraged to get in touch with Susan or Val. These weekly daytime adventures ( a few hours per paddling excursion) are held depending on the weather and sail within the area of the yacht club within the Petpeswick Inlet. Equipment for members is free of charge. Please contact us for more information and to be added to the weekly paddling list. In recent years, we have seen a heightened interest among community members for Lightning racing! There is no charge to enter our informal races and non-members pay only the $10 launch fee. Time: After July 1st - Saturdays at 2:00pm. Who: Petpeswick Yacht Club encourages all boaters in the area to participate. Guests from abroad allowable based on travel restrictions at the time of the event.

Events at PYC: FRIENDLY REMINDER!
The good news is that we are back to full capacity (150 people indoors), and this makes us hopeful that we can hold our Christmas Dance on November 27th. Dancing is now permitted with masking!
For weddings (and a few other large semi-private events permitted by Nova Scotia Health), renters are obliged to follow the same rules as PYC and, if it is not possible for them to do so, they will be unable to hold their events.
