About Learn To Sail at Petpeswick

Petpeswick Yacht Club was founded by people who shared a passion for the water, and the excitement experienced by sailing. Today, their vision and passion continues through our Learn to Sail program. Our instructors are certified by Sail Canada through Sail Nova Scotia and teach approved CANSail curriculum to a broad range of sailors.

Junior Sailing Lessons

Sail Canada’s CANSail 2017 Program

  • Levels 1 to 4: Ages 8-18; Wet Feet: Ages 5-8

Wet Feet Ages 5-8 (must have completed grade Primary)

  • Date: July 31-August 4th ($105), Aug 8-11th ($85); 1/2 day sailing, 1/2 day recreation
  • Hours: 9:00-4:00. We are partnering with HRM Recreation for these weeks.
  • Register by phone at 902-889-4050 or in person at HRM Recreation, 7900 Highway 7, Musq Harbour (M-F, 9:00am-4:00pm).

To reserve your children’s sailing times, please register on-line by clicking REGISTER. Classes can fill up quickly. Enrolments will be managed on a first come, first served basis.

CANSail Levels 1-4 Ages 8-16

Adult Sailing Program

Adult Learn To Sail: Adult sailing lessons will be taught by Sail Canada certified instructors who will teach basic sailing skills with an emphasis on seamanship and safety. Adult lessons will be offered only if/as instructors are available. Lifejackets (DOT approved PFD) and soft soled, closed-toed shoes are required.

  • Intro To Sailing – 3 hour Sessions:
    • Members: $40/session
    • Non-members: $50
  • For more advanced sailing instruction and hourly prices:
    • Members: $ 20/hour
    • Non-members: $30/hour

Boats for instruction: Lightning, Walker Bay, Echo, Laser, Laser 2.

The Intro To Sailing sessions are about 3 hours, and include about 2 hours of on-water instruction with a 1/2 hour before and after for rigging/de-rigging boats as well as on-land instruction. Morning sessions will be from 9:30-12:30PM. Afternoon sessions will be from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.

During the last 2 weeks of June we will offer morning and afternoon intro sessions for adults. Throughout the summer, morning and afternoon sessions will be offered as instructors are available on week days or weekends. Evening lessons would begin after 4:30PM.
